WHAT YOU BUY MATTERS

WHAT YOU BUY MATTERS

Frankie Story knows that the fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world. Together we use more water than any other, apart from agriculture, and are responsible for the unfair working conditions of millions of people.

We need a change of heart.

Frankie's Story was born with a  vision to buy clothes that children love to wear, without compromising social and environmental aspects of the production.

This is the core of our store, and it affects every move we make.

THE LIVING WAGE PROJECT

Frankie's Story will works with brands that commit to The Living Wage Project.

The Living Wage Project was created to implement a system of paying the workers at all our sewing units a living wage instead of the standard minimum wage.

OUR IMPACT

Producing clothes will always have an impact. The challenge is to make it minimal. The to-do list is never ending, but we are committed to this long-term relationship called sustainability.

 MATERIALS

We have a rigorous policy on what materials we consider to be sustainably better, not just for our planet, but also for the children who wear our clothes. To us better products are made in a minimum of 80% sustainably better materials; organic, recycled, upcycled, ECONYL® yarn, Tencel™ lyocell and Modal®.

Besides using more better materials, we also have a responsibility to opt out materials that are considered non-sustainable. Materials we choose not to use are conventional cotton, non-recycled polyester, and rayon, to name a few.

ORGANIC

Organic materials include, for example, organic cotton and organic wool. In fact all the wool and cotton we use is organic, and certified with GOTS and OCS. Pesticides and genetically modified seeds are not used in organic cotton cultivation. Harmful chemicals are restricted in the processing of organic cotton and wool.

ECONYL® YARN

ECONYL® is an innovative nylon yarn, made from abandoned fishing nets and other ocean waste. ECONYL® yarn is made of 78 % recycled polyamide, which has the same properties and quality as the virgin fibre.  UV clothes are made from ECONYL® and have a UPF 50+ protection.

RECYCLED

Recycled materials include, for example, recycled polyester and recycled polyamide. As always, 100% of our polyester is recycled and in 2018, 59% of our polyamide was recycled. All our recycled materials are GRS certified which is the strictest standard for recycled materials on the .market

BIONIC-FINISH® ECO

Most conventional water-repellent coatings on the market today contain fluorocarbons that decompose very slowly in nature, are easily spread, and nowadays found worldwide. They impair our reproductive ability and are also suspected to cause cancer. The eco-friendlier water-repellent BIONIC-FINISH ECO coating ensures that all  functional clothing are free from dangerous fluorocarbons and other hazardous chemicals including PFCs (perfluorinated compounds), formaldehyde and paraffin.

TENCEL™ LYOCELL

Lyocell is another version of a more environmentally friendly viscose. It’s derived from forested wood, and the majority of our Lyocell is sourced from sustainable forestry. The chemicals used in production are reused and recycled in a unique closed loop system. Lyocell requires very little water and land area in comparison to organic cotton that requires large amounts of water and large pieces of land. Most of our Lyocell is made by the Austrian producer Lenzing and is called Tencel™ Lyocell. They have state of the art machinery that holds the highest environmental standards.

UPCYCLED

We use leftover waste materials from previous productions to create new products with new life and value. This process creates a lesser impact on natural resources, both from reusing what would otherwise have gone to waste, and by not having to source new materials for future collections.

MODAL

Modal® is a more environmentally friendly version of viscose. It is derived from sustainably forested wood, mainly beech trees, and the chemicals used in production are reused and recycled. Producing Modal® also requires very little energy in comparison to organic cotton that requires large amounts of water and creates a high amount of greenhouse gases.
